Good Deal or Wouldn’t Steal: 1979 BMW R65 – $5500
I’m going to be posting at least one Good Deal or Wouldn’t Steal (GDOWS) post each week for all of us to argue about. I’m going to find an interesting bike for sale, probably locally but not necessarily. I’ll post pictures, price, and description (and link to the ad), and lets see what we think about the price vs. bike/condition/mods. Lets get started!
Found on San Diego Craigslist is this 1979 BMW R65 airhead. The R65 is a 650cc BMW air cooled twin. They’re physically smaller than the R75/R90/R100’s, but have decent power for a 650cc. Not a bad base for a cafe style build. Here is the pictures and description from the seller. You can see the original ad HERE.
Brand new 2013 build. Lots of new parts. New paint. New leather seat. New FireStone tires. etc..
Motor is in perfect running condition, daily rider if one wants. Clean CA title
The bike has a beautiful vintage look and is very clean. Real head turner.
So what do you guys think? The R65’s are cool bikes. They handle fairly well and have decent power. This bike has some nice work and decent modifications. Does it qualify as a cafe bike? Does a cafe build like this justify a $5500 price tag? What do you think!
